Rusty Christensen took Friday morning to pull a sled carrying fishing rods and tackle boxes onto frozen Fernan Lake for his first ice-fishing trip of the season. ÒCome on fishies,Ó he said, bobbing his pole. Christensen claimed his spot in the center of the lake with two poles, one rigged with a worm for trout and the other with maggots for perch. ÒI was trying to go all the way across (the lake)É but I got tired so I stopped here,Ó Christensen said. Rusty moved to Coeur dÕAlene from his home in North Dakota in the mid-1980s. ÒI knew I would be retiring soon and I wanted to go somewhere that had a lot of things to do for free.Ó
