GABE GREEN/Press The distance from the $1,000 golf ball, belonging to the Cranney family, to the tee is measured Saturday at the Avondale Golf Club driving range, setting it only inches away from surrounding balls. 700 golf balls were dropped from a Helicopter flown by Jim VanSky of Big Sky Helicopter Services as part of a fundraiser for the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy’s music program. Each ball was purchased for $10 by community members and whichever ball landed closest to the tee won its owner $1,000 in visa gift cards. The program collected a total of $6,575 from the fundraiser.
