OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
TERROR: Time to repeat history
A quote from the history of General Black Jack Pershing:
GUNS: Fear and the NRA
NRA guru Wayne Lapierre once gave a most eloquent speech (lol), and stated, “The best defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!” Well, I’ve been pondering that statement, after the very local t…
UNBROKEN: See rest of the story
On Christmas Day we took our family to see the movie “UNBROKEN.” It was a great movie about the human spirit and the desire to live under the most impossible circumstances including unbearable torture. While I high…
DEER: Sign of a bad hunter
I noticed the article on the front page of the Post Falls Press about the buck deer that had been shot with an arrow and is in distress. This is a terrible thing for the animal to have to endure because of some slo…
VETS: Profiteers should pay
As much as I respect the “Wounded Warriors” organization, they should not be the ones aiding our vets. It should be our past and present presidents and Congress that created, then escalated these wars. It should be…
GOP: Beware the trade trap
The year 2015 will be great politically with the Republicans firmly in control of both houses of Congress poised to say “No” to big spending and the expansion of big government, right? Well, not exactly.
ECHECKS: Still more questions
I really appreciate Kootenai County Treasurer Malzahn’s response to my echeck convenience fee letter to the editor. Could Treasurer Malzahn answer these questions:

LIVESTOCK: Treat more humanely
Idaho’s ag industry generally controls our legislature and our governor’s office. This control has led to the legal sanctioning of animal cruelty across the spectrum (livestock, domestic and wildlife). A tiny minor…
BOEHNER: Raul's support disappoints
No backbone then no change, Mr. Labrador!
GRANTS: Where's rest of the money?
I think I must be missing something here. The total federal grant money received by the city of Coeur d’Alene, according to The Press, was $295,366. Nice chunk of change to be split between three different nonprofi…
TRAGEDY: Wake up calls abound
Tragically, the young mother who was shot and killed was careless with her purse and with her child. This isn’t just about guns! It’s really about women and mothers who have been fortunate enough to live in a wonde…
MEDICAID: Avoid federal 'monstrosity'
Re: the really, really long My Turn column from the Scheids on the Medicaid gap. You lost me at “affordable.” This monstrosity is anything but affordable, which is the reason it’s not the smashing success it was ex…
MEDICAID: Assist the working poor
The governor’s refusal to reform Medicaid to work hand-in-hand with the Affordable Care Act is not only wrong, it’s immoral, economically insane, and just bad fiscal policy. It will cost Idaho $1 billion over the n…
