OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
TRUMP: Standing by him
Our 2016 POTUS election is an exercise in contradictions. Across several mainstream media outlets America hears that Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump by margins up to 10 percent. We hear the last two weeks t…
BOATING: A safety refresher
I grew up in Coeur d’Alene and now live in Portland. This is my second visit this summer and in the wake of last week’s lake tragedy it would seem a perfect time to publish in the paper, rules for boaters.
TAXES: Pity the taxpayer
Max tax increases on the way, The Press headline said. The reason is to be sure government employees make more money and have better benefits than the people paying the bill. Makes perfect sense to me.
HILLARY: Check full facts
On Aug. 3, Janet Callen espouses how strong and smart HRC is. She regurgitates what we all know took place during her tenure as secretary of state and then what does she do? She goes back in time for comparison and…
TRUMP: He's a traitor
To start off, Janet Callen’s letter of Aug. 3 in the Coeur d’Alene Press was spot on. Great letter with plenty of facts. The best part of the Republican convention was Cruz’s speech. Sometimes it does take a snake …
TRUMP: A wounded heart
As a recipient of the Purple Heart and a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, I am appalled by Donald Trump’s cavalier statement about receiving a Purple Heart from a MOPH member — “this was e…
REFORM: Thanks, but no thanks

WORKERS: Two big problems
In response to the letter writer in last week’s paper inquiring about what appears to be a lack of employable people in the area considering all of the help wanted signs businesses have posted.
BOATERS: Little civility, please
We were gassing up our boat at Templin’s Marina gas dock and could not believe how many boaters have no clue what a no-wake-zone is! The staff at the gas dock have a siren that they blast and ask boaters to slow do…
POEM: My way, II
Well it’s me and I
HILLARY: Smart and strong
I watched the Republican convention. As Trump spoke, I fully expected the crowd to get up and goose-step around the room. Trump supporters are calling for Hillary to be shot, hung or imprisoned. They are shouting l…
KHAN: A political pawn
At the Democrat’s Convention, Mr. Khan, the father of a fallen American Soldier, condemned Donald Trump for wanting to limit Muslim entry into our country during these dangerous times by implying that to do so is s…
IDAHO: Consider third party
The Republican and Democratic Conventions revealed that the two major parties are no longer in step with Idahoans. In Idaho, 70 percent of members in both parties said they do NOT want either Trump or Clinton.
HILLARY: Show and tell
Regarding Hillary’s 30,000 deleted emails and Trump’s calls upon hackers to retrieve them:
COUNTY: Taxes and integrity
David Stewart votes for raises for county employees ($1 million for the Sheriff’s Department in the Coeur d’Alene Press, February 2015, and 8 percent for other employees in June 2015) then votes against a tax incre…
