LIBRARIES: No drag shows have been hosted

| May 18, 2025 1:00 AM

Brent Regan, I would like to clarify that no drag shows are being hosted at our libraries, nor have there been any in the past. If you intended to show support for Victoria Bauman, misinforming the public does not look good on you (KCRCC) or her. If you’ve been a patron of our libraries, you would know that the library programs offered to the community are dedicated to promoting literacy, inspiring imagination, and fostering community engagement through a variety of inclusive activities designed to resonate with diverse audiences. I invite you to share your evidence or consider drafting a correction.

When it comes to Victoria, I believe she may be misinformed about several important issues, particularly regarding book selection. She asserts that most of the collection consists of titles published after 2000. However, the reality is that the majority of books in the CLN are more recent because older titles either aren’t checked out or have been damaged and removed through a process known as weeding. Is she planning to create a policy that restricts purchases to just classics? It appears she assumes she has the authority to dictate which books should belong in the library’s collection. The CLN board’s responsibilities are centered around hiring a director and approving policies, rather than deciding on specific book purchases. Perhaps if she participated in more than just two board meetings, each lasting about an hour, she might develop a clearer understanding of how everything operates.

I prefer a board trustee to have experience and knowledge in the workings of the CLN; that is why I’ll be voting for Michelle Lippert, May 20.
