Route changes coming at interchange
POST FALLS — Drivers traveling northbound on Highway 41 wishing to access westbound Interstate 90 will be detoured north to 16th Avenue, where they will make a U-turn and then return south along the highway until they merge onto the new westbound temporary on-ramp, starting this week.
This shift will allow southbound traffic from Highway 41 to merge onto the on-ramp rather than requiring drivers to make a dedicated right turn, according to a press release from the Idaho Transportation Department.
Shifting the on- and off-ramps will provide space for crews to continue working on the new center of the future interchange, ITD added.
Following this change, northbound drivers on Highway 41 will no longer be able to turn left onto the westbound on-ramp.
This closure will be in effect through the fall.
There are also ongoing closures related to the I-90/Highway41 Interchange project that began in early March.
The westbound off-ramp will remain closed through the fall while crews construct a new off-ramp as well as the single-point urban interchange. Traffic is instead detoured to the Seltice Way interchange at Exit 6.
Central Avenue will also remain closed through late fall while crews continue to widen Highway 41.
This project also includes improvements to Highway 41 and the surrounding local roads. Construction for this project is expected to be complete in 2026.
