KNOLL: Letter speaks for many of us

| March 30, 2025 1:00 AM

Regarding Allison Knoll’s Letter of Resignation, she is not a voice in the wilderness. As a 29-year employee who retired from Lakeland School District, I agree whole-heartedly with her observations of the Lakeland School Board.

Basically, it’s the chairperson Michelle Thompson and her board member supporter, Ramona Grissom, who are the ones that are dismissive of the Lakeland staff. Michelle Thompson proved it by her response to Allison’s letter of resignation saying, “I wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

If she was supportive of teachers she would have said, “Let’s sit down and talk. What can we do to make things better. We do not want to lose good teachers.”

In the past Lakeland School District has had a shining reputation in the area and in the state. Under this board we have lost that reputation and now can’t even pass a bond levy.

There are many retirees who feel the same way. We need to make some changes. And that starts with the part of the board that does not value public education.
