CARTOON: Response to March 26 edition
I remember THEN!
“Were you better off then than you are now?”
The cartoon pokes fun at protesters with a couple remarking it reminds them of the 60s. Current protests are reminiscent of previous eras because POTUS and his close circle want us to return to a time of: fewer rights for women, immigrants being treated like U.S. Japanese citizens in WWII, National Guard shooting whomever speaks against POTUS, media silenced by “presidential order”, economic recession, mandatory draft, war, and civil rights marches. Blatantly absent are signs protesting essential federal entities such as National Parks, EPA, education, Social Security, Medicare, IRS, Pentagon, health care, voting rights, etc. gutted, threatened or dissolved altogether.
Valuable insight could be helpful if ALL U.S. citizens took a hard look back into what happened in the 60s, 70s as well as before and after to decide if they really want history to repeat itself along with all the personal, economic and political trouble and grief those periods entailed. Worse, do they want to live in a fake democracy in which POTUS has power over all with “presidential orders”. No more courts, Senate, House, law enforcement or essential services except by the will of the POTUS and only for those it deems deserving or important. I doubt it. What is happening now is far worse than the past.
I hope the Press isn’t subject to censure and patriotically includes all sides of issues as America fights to preserve what our ancestors (once immigrants some of whom had “varied” backgrounds) worked and fought to create.
