POST FALLS — The 3rd Avenue Marketplace announced Tuesday that Executive Director Leslie Orth is retiring after a decade of leading the organization.

Charlene Holbrook, board chair, has been appointed as the new executive director. The leadership transition will go into effect June 2.

During last month's Post Falls Chamber of Commerce recognition reception, Holbrook won the agency's Volunteer of the Year Award for volunteering over 600 hours for the Marketplace.

"She has been the biggest unexpected blessing that the 3rd Avenue Marketplace has had," Orth said. "I think she’s the single most hardworking volunteer I’ve ever experienced."

During her 10-year tenure, Orth significantly expanded the marketplace’s reach and impact, providing essential resources and support to countless families in Kootenai County, the release said.

Holbrook brings over 30 years of leadership experience to the role, including 22 years as the communications director at the Post Falls Police Department and her background involves overseeing the 911 center in Post Falls.

Holbrook is known at the Marketplace for embracing every opportunity for public service and has a passion for community engagement, the release said.

Holbrook said she is honored to step into the role of executive director and thanked Orth for bringing the organization where it is today.

“The dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters has made a lasting difference in the lives of so many individuals and families. I look forward to building on this strong foundation, expanding our services and strengthening our partnerships,” Holbrook said.

Leslie Orth gives Charlene Holbrook an award Wednesday at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn. Holbrook was honored as the 3rd Avenue Marketplace's Volunteer of the Year for logging over 600 hours of service at the nonprofit.
