RATHDRUM: Aquatic center is a great idea
I want to echo the recent letter that voiced the need for a swimming pool in Rathdrum. Rathdrum is the fastest growing city in the county and, together with the surrounding area, has more than enough population to support a year-round aquatic center. Currently, I drive to the Kroc in Coeur d’Alene once or twice a week to swim. For many people, especially families with children, going to Coeur d’Alene to find a pool simply isn’t an option.
For Rathdrum, a good 6 or 8 lane 25 yard lap pool and an associated splash pad and/or pool for children and for water aerobics would be an excellent facility. In other cities where I’ve lived, this type of family friendly facility is widely used and well supported. In addition, an aquatic center in Rathdrum would provide an opportunity to give swim lessons for young and old, and it would be a great practice and meet facility for our high school swim teams. An aquatic center would also attract people to the city and benefit the local economy. I strongly urge Rathdrum to explore options for building an aquatic center in the near future, and I ask that all of our local swimmers and families speak up to support this.
