PREP BASEBALL: Coey's slam fuels Coeur d'Alene's sweep of Lakeland

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Kolbe Coey hit a grand slam in the fourth inning of the first game for Coeur d’Alene, which went on to sweep Lakeland 16-4 and 3-0 in an Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday at Ted Page Field. 

Will Beckenhauer hit a two-run homer in the third inning of the opener to put Coeur d'Alene up 5-4.

In the nightcap, senior Owen Field had a two-run single for the Vikings, who limited Lakeland to one hit — a fourth inning single by Tadgh Ellwood. 

Coeur d’Alene (3-0, 2-0 IEL) hosts Moscow in an IEL doubleheader on Tuesday. 

Lakeland (0-6, 0-4) hosts Sandpoint in a league doubleheader on Tuesday.

BOISE — Three Post Falls pitchers combined on a one-hitter, a triple by Rigby’s Quinn Bennett to lead off the game, to wrap up play in the Buck’s Bags Invitational at Timberline High. 

Aidan Carrasco had a two-run single in the fifth inning and Caden Reese scored two runs for Post Falls (2-2), which returns home to host Lewiston in an IEL doubleheader next Saturday at noon. 

“We really learned a lot from the first game to today,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “I really think that not having the newness really helped them come through and play the way the game is supposed to be played today.”

Rigby is 3-5.

Thomas Bateman went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the first game for Bonners Ferry. 

Resor Pugh had two hits and three RBIs for St. Maries in the first game. 

Thomas Bateman and Keenan Maas scored three runs each for Bonners Ferry in the second game. 

St. Maries (1-4) hosts Grangeville on Tuesday. 

Bonners Ferry (2-2) hosts Lincoln County, Mont., next Saturday.
