PREP ROUNDUP: Cd'A boys captures Sweeney meet

LEWISTON — The Coeur d’Alene High distance medley relay team of Max Cervi-Skinner, Zack Cervi-Skinner, Wyatt Carr and Mitchell Rietze won in 10 minutes, 33.83 seconds, helping guide the Viking boys to the team title at the Sweeney Invitational on Friday.
Coeur d’Alene led with 91 points with 18 of 19 events scored, followed by Pullman.
“We had a number of kids step up and score points for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. “It was a great start to the season, competing against over 20 teams.”
Post Falls senior Giovanni Carlino won the 100 and 200.
Lakeland sophomore Sapphire Ruelle won the 100 and 200.
Lewiston won the girls team title with 104.5 points, followed by Coeur d’Alene with 85.5.

RICHLAND, Wash. — Senior Travis Usdrowski hit a three-run home run for the Timberwolves in the top of the sixth inning in a win over the Bombers at Richland High.
Sophomore Kasen Noffke drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning to give Lake City a 9-6 lead.
Senior Mark Holecek scored three runs for Lake City (1-1), which is scheduled to host Lewiston in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

NAMPA — The Trojans had runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh inning, but were unable to push across a run, falling to the Hawks in the Buck’s Bags Invitational at Skyview High.
Post Falls outhit Skyview 5-2 in the game.
“We were hitting line drives, but right at them,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “That’s how baseball goes sometimes. We had a few gap shots, but they were playing for it and it went right to them.”
Sophomore Caden Perkins struck out five and junior Gavin Wienker three for Post Falls (1-2), which concludes the tournament today against Rigby at Timberline High in Boise.

Lake City ties, falls at Boise-area tourney
MERIDIAN — The Timberwolves tied Kimberly 4-4 and lost to Owyhee of Meridian 15-0 at the Win The Pitch Spring Classic at Owyhee High.
Against Kimberly, Lake City trailed 4-0 before Layla Gugino hit a two-run single in the third inning. The T-Wolves tied it with two in the fourth. The game was called after six innings due to a tourney time limit.
In the second game, Hailey Brennan of Owyhee, last year’s state 5A runners-up, struck out 15 in five innings, walked one and pitched a one-hitter, allowing a single by Karsyn DeMent with one out in the second inning.
"In our game against Kimberly, our defense played lights out," Lake City coach Jordyn Hensley. "I was proud of the energy, the focus and the fight. We came to play and we are getting better pitch by pitch."
Today, Lake City is scheduled to play Pocatello and Skyview, both at Owyhee, to conclude tourney play.

Lakeland splits on first day of tourney
HOMEDALE — Lakeland hit six homers on Friday, including five in a 24-10 victory over Homedale in the second game of the day at the Win The Pitch Spring Classic.
Lakeland lost 9-4 to La Grande (Ore.) in the first game.
In the second game, Katie Dewey hit two home runs and drove in three runs for Lakeland (1-2). Raygen Dutton went 3 for 4 with a homer, two doubles and seven runs batted in; Kiersten Drake was 4 for 5 with a homer, six RBIs and four runs scored, Delilah Zimmerman was 3 for 4 with three doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored; and Ada Blakemore was 3 for 4 and scored five runs.
“We are hitting the ball really well right now — 13 home runs in three games,” Lakeland coach Dwayne Curry said.
In the first game, Blakemore hit a three-run homer in the top of the second inning to put Lakeland up 4-1. La Grande broke a 4-all tie with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Today, Lakeland plays McCall-Donnelly and Centennial, both at Vallivue High in Caldwell.
