Kootenai sheriff deputies arrest assault suspect
A Coeur d'Alene man was arrested following a standoff with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office on Saturday.
Matthew Bowen, 60, was taken into custody and is being held at the Kootenai County jail on one count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest, according to a press release.
Deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. to an address on Goldrush Road for a report of a man with a gun.
It was reported an unknown male arrived at the victim’s property and began an argument, the release said. The suspect displayed a firearm and pointed it at the victim.
"Shortly after leaving the property, the suspect fired the gun causing the victim to shelter in their home," the release said.
Deputies located Bowen at his nearby residence, but he refused to cooperate, the release said.
The Kootenai County Joint Agency SWAT responded and a shelter-in-place order was sent to the surrounding area. Bowen soon surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, the release said.
The reason for the initial argument is unknown and an investigation continues.
