BOISE — There was some good.

Really good.

And then, there was some bad for the Post Falls baseball team to open the season on Thursday.

Senior Caleb Jimmerson struck out 10 and junior Bryce Berger fanned five for the Trojans in a 4-3 season-opening win over Meridian in the Buck’s Bags Tournament at Capital High.

Senior Kyler Cooley hit a solo home run leading off a four-run second inning, the lone hit for Post Falls in the opener.

“It was a very typical first day where we did some really good things and some other things to work on,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Cooley’s home run was phenomenal and that inning showed what we could do. Jimmerson was really good and wasn’t quite as sharp as he could have been. Berger came in and shut the door and pitched lights out.”

Later, the Trojans committed seven errors in a 6-4 loss to Capital of Boise.

“We just had a lot of mental errors and mistakes,” Reese said. “There’s just some things that we’ll continue to work through.”

Post Falls (1-1) faces Skyview of Nampa today at Timberline High in Boise.
