COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ejim's double-double leads Gonzaga in first round of WBIT

Gonzaga senior Yvonne Ejim record her 13th double-double of the season, finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds for the Bulldogs in a 67-51 win over Texas-San Antonio in the opening round of the WBIT in front of 2,571 at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane on Thursday.

Allie Turner also had a record-breaking night as she scored her 97th 3-pointer of the season to claim the single-season record of most 3s made, surpassing Brynna Maxwell’s single season record of 96 from 2023-24. Turner added 13 points for the Zags and made three 3s on the night. Maud Huijbens also reached double figures for the Bulldogs, scoring 11 points. 

Ejim also had seven steals, as Gonzaga forced 19 turnovers.         

GU outscored UTSA in the first quarter, 23-17. The Zags had a 15-0 run beginning in the first and continuing on to the second as GU extended its lead to 10 midway through the second, 32-22.

Gonzaga (23-10) advances to play at top-seeded Colorado on Sunday in Boulder, Colo., at noon.

UTSA finished 26-5.

UNLV 63, Hawaii 46: At Las Vegas, the Runnin’ Rebels beat the Rainbow Wahine in the first round of the WBIT at Cox Pavilion.

Brooklyn Rewers, a senior from Lake City High, had 10 points and four rebounds for Hawaii (22-10), the top seed in the Big West tournament, which was bumped off in the semifinals.

Teagan Colvin, a freshman from Coeur d’Alene High, did not play for UNLV (26-7), which plays host to Florida on Sunday.

Texas Tech 65, Wyoming 48: At Laramie, Wyo., Madi Symons, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, had two points in five minutes for Wyoming (22-12) in the loss to Texas Tech (18-17) in the first round of the WBIT.
