Mayor Wood McEvers paid tribute Tuesday to a former longtime employee who held key roles with the city of Coeur d'Alene.

Ken Thompson, 77, passed away Feb. 15 in Liberty Lake.

McEvers said Thompson worked for the city from 1983 to 2000, serving as treasurer, finance director and administrator.

"He was very committed to keeping our city in good financial standing," McEvers said during the City Council meeting. "The city is grateful and thankful for all those years of service and remember him fondly."

Thompson was also instrumental in the revitalization of downtown Coeur d'Alene and was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club.

He was part of a group that launched the Sting Soccer Club, a youth soccer organization that’s still thriving after 40 years.

"He was a good one,” Councilor Dan English said.
