PREP ROUNDUP: Vikings win opener under new coach

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Kolbe Coey went 4 for 4 with a two-run home run in the second inning for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a 15-0 win over the Ridgeline Falcons of Liberty Lake at Ted Page Field on Tuesday, the season opener for the Vikings under new coach Brandon Williams. 

Coey also scored three runs, Owen Field and Bam Fenter had two RBIs each for Coeur d’Alene, which is scheduled to host Lakeland in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon. 

Ridgeline is 0-3.

ST. MARIES — Sophomore James Morast struck out seven in four innings, allowing three hits for the Trojan JV in a win over the Lumberjacks at City Park. 

Freshman Jerry Jones went 4 for 4 with two runs scored for Post Falls. 

St. Maries (0-2) travels to Liberty High of Spangle, Wash., on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Inland Empire League doubleheader was postponed and rescheduled for today at 2 p.m. at Lake City High.

RATHDRUM — Sammie Chavez had three hits, three RBIs and five runs scored for the Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League win over the Hawks at Lakeland High. 

Mariah Thomas had two hits and five RBIs for Lake City (2-1), which hit three home runs int the game. 

Jaiden Corbey and Dizzy Zimmerman each homered twice for Lakeland in the first game. 

Lake City led Lakeland 12-2 in the middle of the fourth inning in the second game before the game was suspended due to darkness. That game will be resumed at a later date. 

Lake City (2-1) faces Kimberly and tournament host Owyhee in the WTP Spring Break Classic on Friday in Meridian. 

Lakeland (0-1) will also compete in the Classic, facing La Grande (Ore.) on Friday at Boise High.
