PREP ROUNDUP: North Idaho Distance Project runners second at Nike indoor nationals

NEW YORK — Coeur d’Alene High runners Mitchell Rietze, Max Cervi-Skinner, Wyatt Carr and Zack Cervi-Skinner, representing the North Idaho Distance Project, finished second in the boys 4x1 mile championship race at the Nike Indoor National meet on Saturday at the Nike Track and Field Center.
The team finished in 17 minutes, 10.47 seconds to earn All-American honors.
Miami Havana Track Club won the race in 17:06.50.
The meet concludes today.

LEWISTON — Senior Tadgh Ellwood drove in both runs in the opener for the Hawks against the Bengals at Walker Field.
Junior Jace Taylor allowed two hits and struck out seven in the second game for Lakeland (0-4, 0-2 IEL), which travels to Lake City for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Lewiston is 3-0, 2-0.

St. Maries splits
at Lewiston mixer
LEWISTON — Senior Madie Thomas hit for the cycle, including an inside-the-park homer in the fourth inning, as St. Maries beat Kendrick 22-13 in their first game Saturday at the Lewiston mixer.
St. Maries fell 8-7 to the Lakeland junior varsity in its second game of the day.
Thomas finished 5 for 5 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the Kendrick game for St. Maries. Her inside-the-park shot was a two-run homer that increased the Lumberjacks’ lead to 15-12. Thomas also hit a two-run triple later in the nine-run inning.
Danika Sloper was 3 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs scored for St. Maries, which went 2-2 at the season-opening weekend event.
Addy Stewart doubled twice and scored four runs for the Lumberjacks.
“From the start of yesterday to the fourth game today, those girls improved 100 percent; it was a great way to start the season,” St. Maries coach Lane Watkins said. “We started hitting the ball; it was awesome.”
Against the Lakeland JV, Addilyn Turner drove in four runs, three on a sixth inning homer as the Lumberjacks nearly erased a 7-0 deficit.
Reagan Masters struck out 12 for the Hawks JV, and also went 2 for 5 with a triple and four RBIs.
St. Maries travels to Kellogg on Friday to begin Central Idaho League play.
