A taste of spring in Coeur d'Alene

Cold, cloudy, even snowy weather would not usually be considered good for attendance at an event in Coeur d’Alene. But for some at the North Idaho Home and Garden Show that begins today, that’s the case.

Following an unusual warm, sunny stretch, the more typical spring conditions with wind and rain arrived right before spring and the big show.

“People will be looking for something to do,” said Miranda Latscha, a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Jacklin Real Estate.

They’ll find what they’re after at the annual gathering of more than 100 exhibitors at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.

The North Idaho Home and Garden Show presented by the North Idaho Building Contractor’s Association runs noon to 6 today, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

It’s an opportunity to see the latest products and hear from builders, remodelers, designers, landscapers and others with spring just around the corner.

“Anything that has to do with a home," said Kacey Beal, NIBCA executive assistant and event coordinator.

About 4,000 people are expected to pass through the doors and meet with local businesses offering services and products related to home improvement, finance, real estate, finance and personal wellness.

Information on roofing, siding, patios, blinds, concrete coating, carpeting, cabinets, decking, windows, garage doors, heating and cooling systems will be available.

For the kids, there’s a scavenger hunt with prizes. But even better, they’ll get the chance to meet industry professionals, like builders, electricians and plumbers

Cel Demers, NIBCA president, said guests will discover new ideas, expert tips and local businesses ready to help bring projects to life.

Tickets are $7 at the door, $5 with a nonperishable food donation. Kids 10 and younger are free.
