Crews to begin work on SH-53 in Rathdrum next week

RATHDRUM — Crews from the Idaho Transportation Department are set to begin construction on Highway 53 near the Highway 41 intersection next week.

ITD is adding a northbound lane on Highway 53, according to a press release from the agency. 

After construction, Highway 53 will still have a dedicated right turn lane for vehicles to travel over the bridge.

The additional lane will allow more vehicles to pass through the signal during green cycles, reducing the length of queued vehicles during peak hours, according to ITD.

During construction, the existing right turn lane will be closed, and all Highway 53 northbound traffic will make movements from the single through lane. 

Drivers should also expect reduced speed limits and flagging.
