Young Artist Concert set for March 22 at North Idaho College

The Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra will present its Young Artist Concert at 7:30 p.m. March 22 in the Schuler Performing Arts Center on the North Idaho College campus.

The event will showcase the talents of the winners of the 2025 Young Artists Competition, accompanied by the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Danh Pham.

The rising stars who will performing celebrated classical masterpieces are:

Alex Chen, cellist: Just 12 years old, Alex has performed solo with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra at Benaroya Hall and has won numerous awards at state and national competitions. He will perform Édouard Lalo's "Cello Concerto in D minor."

Harry Wang, violinist: An Australian Chinese virtuoso, Wang has performed internationally, including solo appearances with the Mosman and Vienna Beethoven Academy Symphony Orchestras, and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s "Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35."

Gabriel Cruz-Ruiz, flutist: An award-winning soloist from Puerto Rico and the assistant principal flutist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Cruz-Ruiz is recognized for his advocacy of Latin American music. He will perform Carl Reinecke’s "Flute Concerto in D major, Op. 283."

Elizabeth Goodwin, mezzo-soprano: A Coeur d'Alene native and graduate of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, Goodwin was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Competition. She will perform Camille Saint-Saëns’ "Mon CÅ“ur S’ouvre à ta Voix" from "Samson et Dalila."

Chloe Sundet, coloratura soprano: Praised for her versatility and pristine clarity, Sundet is a dynamic performer sought after for opera, operetta, musical theater and concerts. She will perform Gaetano Donizetti’s "Quel Guardo il Cavaliere" from "Don Pasquale."

Josephine Chow, pianist: A 15-year-old prodigy from Austin, Texas, and the winner of the Music Teachers National Association Junior Piano Competition, Josephine has performed with orchestras such as the Las Colinas Symphony and Starlight Symphony. She will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18."

Annika Jonson, pianist: An undergraduate student at Texas Christian University, Jonson is known for her deep sincerity and sensitivity as a pianist. She has received top awards from the Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle and the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Association. She will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s "Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26."

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors, $15 for military/veteran and students or free for children ages 6-12 with purchase of an adult or senior ticket as well as NIC students. Children 0-5 are also free.
