FLAGS: Thanks for displaying
On my walk this morning, it was heartwarming to see so many American flags flying from household flag poles. And they were not only the traditional stars and stripes, but flags with blue, green, and red stripes honoring our first responders. Even though I am sure some were new, as you can tell by the creases, I appreciate people taking the time to find, purchase, and display such flags.
I have a thin blue line flag decal on my car. Where I came from, I was often asked, “What is that?” My reply, “The blue line is to honor the men and women who wear the uniform and put their lives on the line for my safety.” From where I come from, the push was not to support peace makers, it was to defund them. In 2020, I stood with a few hundred on the second floor terrace of the Seattle courthouse. We held signs in favor of the local police officers. Across the street were the black clad and umbrella yielding Antifa thugs. There were more of us than them, but they received more of the media’s attention.
On my stroll, there were things I was happy to not see. No graffiti, no unkempt loiterers, no trash. Well, except for three container castaways, which I retrieved, but considering that was all the garbage I saw during my two-mile trek, that’s pretty good.
Thank you, neighbors. I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in support of our first responders. And I am glad the only thing I have to worry about when going for a walk in my neighborhood is if I put on enough sunscreen.
