'He loved what he did'
Murphy, a leader of the Idaho Disaster Dogs team for a decade, passed away Wednesday.
The 11-year-old yellow Labrador, a team member since he was 7 weeks old, deployed multiple times, including two deployments for a disaster response in Hawaii.
“He loved what he did, and we loved him too,” Idaho Disaster Dogs wrote in a social media post.
Murphy and Cody Moore, a Coeur d’Alene firefighter and paramedic, were a search-and-rescue team for the past decade.
Moore wrote a book, "Murphy Gets A Job," with illustrations by Tamara Markov, that outlines Murphy’s colorful career. It offers a look at how they trained together, shared a home, developed a bond and grew to look out for one another.
"He's a great dog," Moore told The Press in a previous interview.
Along the way, they rushed to help people whenever and wherever they were needed. Idaho Disaster Dogs has deployed teams to assist with local, state, tribal and federal responses.
Murphy was among the best.
“Murphy you will be missed, thank you for everything you did for us,” Idaho Disaster Dogs wrote.
