COEUR d’ALENE — A Montana woman was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to a press release Wednesday from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The release said Ayana R. Bacon, 25, of Box Elder, was a passenger in a car which was stopped in Shoshone County on Sept. 22, 2023. The individuals in the car had picked up a large quantity of fentanyl pills in Washington and were taking them to Montana to distribute them, according to the release.

U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford also ordered that Bacon be placed on supervised release for three years following her prison sentence. Bacon pleaded guilty to the charge in August.

“Fentanyl is a deadly threat and, along with our dedicated federal and state law enforcement partners, we are focused on shutting it out of Idaho,” said U.S. Attorney Hurwit. “This means prosecuting those who bring it into Idaho communities as well as those using our highways to take loads to another state. Either way, we will hold you accountable.”
