Coeur d'Alene police warn of online predatory groups

| January 30, 2025 1:00 AM
The Coeur d'Alene Police Department issued a warning Wednesday reminding "everyone to be aware of violent online predatory groups targeting kids on social media."

"These groups use threats, blackmail and manipulation to control kids, coercing them into recording or live-streaming self-harm, sexually explicit acts (CSAM) and/or suicide," according to the statement. "The footage is then circulated among members of these predatory groups to have further control over the kids."

The social media post included a public service announcement on the subject from the FBI.

"As parents, please stay engaged with your children and monitor their online activities," according to the post. "Talk to your children about these types of incidents and report any occurrences to the police."
