New EWU men's golf coach Grove looking to build 2025-26 roster

CHENEY — The fall of 2025 will see the return of the Eastern Washington men’s golf to competition.

The program will begin competition in the 2025-26 academic year after being discontinued at the conclusion of the 2001-02 year.

Leading the program’s restart is Russell Grove, who was hired as the head men’s golf coach last week.

Grove was the North Idaho College men's and women's golf coach the past 10 seasons. He left the program recently when NIC school officials chose to cut the programs, effective the end of the spring 2025 season.

Grove’s main responsibility at the moment at Eastern is to build a roster for the ‘25-’26 season.

Potential student-athletes who are interested in finding out more about the Eastern men’s golf program can fill out the Prospective Athletes form at goeags.com

High schools coaches can contact Grove for more information about the program through email (rgrove1@ewu.edu) or over the phone (208-659-3971).

EWU will compete in the Big Sky Conference, joining five other member institutions including Idaho, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and Weber State.

Eastern’s men's golf team made its debut at the NAIA level in the 1960s before playing in NCAA Division II in the 80s. After a 10-year hiatus from 1982 to 1992, the men's program returned with the addition of the women's team and went on to play through the 2001-02 academic year.
