PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Vikings start fast, down Trojans
POST FALLS — Sophomore Brookeslee Colvin scored a game-high 27 points and freshman Lexie Wheeler added 14 for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in an 82-57 Inland Empire League win over the Post Falls Trojans at The Arena on Saturday.
Coeur d’Alene led 28-11 after the first quarter and 43-23 at halftime.
“It was a good start for us tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Stacy Boyd said. “We put together a hard schedule at the beginning and told the players, it’s not about how you start, but how you finish. I wanted us to be battle tested. We’re just going to work and everyone is contributing and playing good team ball, and attacking the basket.”
Junior Karisa Wallis had 16 points for Coeur d’Alene (13-7, 7-0 IEL), which hosts Lakeland to conclude the regular season.
“A lot of teams want to key on Brookeslee, but when you’re so deep if you double team her, we spread the court really well,” Boyd said. “We’ve got a lot of shooters and that’s what we want them to do and be able to get other players involved.”
Senior Myckenzee Mitley scored 16 points, junior Kailey Walton 13 points for Post Falls (6-14, 3-4), which travels to Lake City on Friday.
“I’m proud of our girls,” Post Falls coach Mike Divilbiss said. “They fought and played hard. It’s really unbelievable to see how far they’ve grown. Coeur d’Alene played outstanding, but I was proud of our kids. Myckenzee looked in the flow of the offense and that might have been Kailey’s best game of the year. They’ve done a tremendous job of staying positive and working hard. This might have been our best basketball game of the season.”
