PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: A moment to remember for Lysne
POST FALLS — When you practice those big moments, as the time comes, you know how to handle it.
On Saturday, Post Falls junior guard Jaxon Lysne got his shot.
With 6.8 seconds remaining, Lysne took an inbounds pass from half court and drove to the basket and score as time expired, lifting the Trojans over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 44-42 in an Inland Empire League game at The Arena.
“We’ve usually got a play set, but when we saw they were in man, we got a matchup we liked,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “Jaxon knew he was going to the rim and the ball was going to him. He had enough time to recognize it, and I’m proud of him for being able to get to the rim and make that play. It’s something that we practice daily so that when the time comes, the shot isn’t hard because you know it’s coming to you. I’m really happy to see him come of age.”
Coeur d’Alene led 26-18 at halftime, but Post Falls rallied to take a 34-33 lead after three quarters after sophomore Cashton Bodman scored eight points in the third.
“Coeur d’Alene threw some different wrinkles that we haven’t seen and we were battling foul trouble,” McLean said. “Cashton did a good job when he had his chance. We really preach trusting the system and I thought Cashton really came of age and helped us.”
Lysne finished with a team-high 13 points for Post Falls (13-5, 5-0 IEL), which travels to Lake City on Friday.
Junior Caden Symons scored 19 points for Coeur d’Alene (7-8, 1-4), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
“I’m proud of what we did defensively,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams said. “We’ve really tried to make that commitment to the defensive side of the ball. We’re not where we expected to be, but we’ve got six games left to work on things and work toward districts. Everyone one of these games, there’s a new objective and we’ve got the luxury of being able to prepare with more league games on the schedule.”
