PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Lake City holds off Coeur d'Alene late

| January 24, 2025 1:20 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Sometimes, the shots fall.

Other times, teams just have to find a way.

On Thursday, Lake City found a way.

Sophomore Jordan Carlson scored a game-high 24 points, 15 in the second half for the Timberwolves in a 61-55 Inland Empire League win over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings at Lake City High.

“Jordan is more of a competitor than it seems,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We’ve been trying to involve him in more stuff and he’s really finding his footing. He’s still kind of growing to playing at the varsity level, and had his moments last year where you saw some things. Now, he’s rising to a spot where you see it all the time and he’s really beginning to separate himself.”

Lake City (13-4, 4-1 IEL) beat Coeur d’Alene 71-53 in the Fight for the Fish spirit game on Jan. 10 at Viking Court.

“It would have been nice to shoot it like we did the first time, but Coeur d’Alene’s a good team and good program,” Anderson said. “We knew that we’d regress and they’d come out fighting. It was a good competitive game.”

Junior Caden Symons scored 23 points for Coeur d’Alene (7-7, 1-3), which led 28-24 at halftime.

“I was proud of how we played in the first half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams said. “We’ve taken more focus defensively and are getting kids to buy into that. We were patient and looking for good shots, then had a stretch where we had some turnovers and we were playing from behind. We just need to play four quarters and buy in defensively.”

Senior Reese Strawn and junior Jackson Bowman scored nine points each for Lake City, which hosts Post Falls on Jan. 31.

Seniors Maxwell Riley and Kai Wheeler scored eight points each for Coeur d’Alene, which travels to Post Falls on Saturday.
