COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a 17-year-old boy who allegedly admitted to robbing a gas station clerk at gunpoint on Christmas Day.

The teen is charged with robbery and attempted burglary, according to a press release from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department on Thursday.

The charges stem from the night of Dec. 25 when police said a person later identified as the teen entered the Exxon gas station at 201 Appleway Ave., pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the cash register. The teen fled on foot after getting the cash, police said.

Surveillance video allegedly showed the teen attempting to break into Safeway, which was closed for the holiday, before going to the gas station, according to police.

Law enforcement located the teen Wednesday afternoon and arrested him. When interviewed by police, he allegedly admitted to the robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
