NIC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Galindo named NJCAA Player of the Week
North Idaho College women’s basketball player Esmeralda Galindo was selected as the Week 9 NJCAA National Player of the Week, the school announced on Wednesday.
Galindo averaged 35.5 points per game while shooting 67.5% from the field (27 of 40) and 85.7% (6 of 7) from beyond the 3-point line last week. She also pulled down four rebounds per game.
Galindo, a 5-fooot-8 freshman guard from Davis High in Yakima, has appeared in 17 games for the Cardinals, starting seven and is averaging 18.8 points per game this season.
“Esme put together quite a weekend for us at Snow College and Utah State Eastern,” NIC women’s basketball coach Nate Covill said. “Not only did she put up big numbers scoring, but she did it while maintaining an incredible shooting percentage. It is no surprise to us, as Esme spends a great deal of time in the gym working on her craft.”
Galindo was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week this week, the second straight week she’s received the award.
NIC (11-8, 3-2 SWAC) resumes conference play tonight against Colorado Northwestern in Rangely, Colo.
