Colson Yankoff

Washington Commanders

The former Coeur d'Alene High star was activated off injured reserve on Saturday, and played in the Commanders' 45-31 victory over the top-seeded Detroit Lions in an NFC divisional playoff. Yankoff, listed as a tight end, played 15 snaps, all on special teams, and was credited with a downed punt in the third quarter. Yankoff had been on IR since early November with a hamstring injury. The fifth-seeded Commanders play at Philadelphia on Sunday in the NFC championship game.

Blake Buchanan

Virginia basketball

The 6-foot-11, 225-pound sophomore center from Lake City High totaled 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Cavaliers in a 54-52 loss to SMU on Jan. 15 in Charlottesville, Va. “Can’t say enough about Blake,” Virginia guard Ishan Sharma told Jeff White of VirginiaSports.com. “He was a warrior today.” “My hopes are that that’s who Blake is from here on out,” said Ron Sanchez, Virginia’s interim head coach. “I thought it may be his best game of the year," SMU coach Andy Enfield said. "I don’t know, I haven’t watched every game that they played, but give him a lot of credit. He’s improving and he played terrifically against us tonight.” Buchanan was going up against Samet Yiğitoğlu, SMU's 7-2, 265-pound big man for most of the night. "My mindset, I was like, I’m just gonna go try to dunk everything, be as aggressive as I can, try to get him in foul trouble, see what happens, and just go from there,” Buchanan said.

Madi Symons

Wyoming basketball

Symons, a 6-foot sophomore forward from Coeur d'Alene High, had five points and three steals in 21 minutes for the Cowgirls (11-8, 5-2 Mountain West Conference) in a 62-50 win over Air Force on Wednesday at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. Symons has appeared in 19 games this season, starting three, with 16 assists and three blocked shots.
