VAULT DOORS: Thanks for saving them

Thank you to all the team that saved the vault doors from the Johnston Building and stored them for historic perpetuity.

Having been a designer for CP Hotels / Fairmont I was able to uncover and save Tiffany glass domes at the Empress Hotel, marble floors in The Palliser in Calgary and carved wood panels at The Banff Springs. After the ’60s cover up of all things “old” it was amazing to celebrate and restore what we now can revere. 

Rather than store these doors to collect dust why not have the architects or designers incorporate them into the new hotel. (They may need a heavier slab and steel under them.) Maybe flanking the bar or a lounge?  Sticking them away is a start but showing them off is even better.
