Athol shop building destroyed in fire

ATHOL — A large shop building was destroyed in a fire that broke out on the 600 block of South Beaver Lake Road on Tuesday morning.

Timberlake Fire Protection District, along with Northside Fire District and Selkirk Fire, responded to the fire that had fully engulfed the shop building at 9:29 a.m., according to the Selkirk Fire Rescue and EMS. The fire was also threatening a nearby residence. 

Responding firefighters knocked the fire down in about 10 minutes. Additional resources and personnel assisted with extinguishing the fire.

The fire is believed to have started "when heat from the chimney pipe ignited ceiling material," according to the property owner. No injuries were reported.
