Fire destroys Coeur d'Alene shop

| January 21, 2025 1:07 AM

A detached shop outside a Coeur d'Alene home was destroyed in a fire Sunday.

The two-alarm blaze at 11th Street and Adeline Avenue was called in about 12:30 p.m. Coeur d'Alene firefighters were joined by the Northern Lakes Fire District and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue.

Damage was estimated at a few hundred thousand dollars.

The owner tried to extinguish the fire, suffered smoked inhalation and was evaluated at the scene but declined to go to the hospital, said Craig Etherton, Coeur d'Alene fire marshal.

He said family members and several dogs safely left the home, which sustained minor damage.

Etherton said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but said the owner was starting a fire in the wood stove at the time.

The shop, which contained welding equipment and a forklift, was considered a total loss.

Firefighters controlled the blaze and cleared the scene in about four hours.
