SPIRIT LAKE — Senior Asher Williams, who has committed to NAIA Montana Tech in Butte, scored a school-record 50 points for the Bonners Ferry Badgers in a 73-28 win over the Timberlake Tigers in the Backwoods Brawl spirit game at Timberlake High on Saturday.

The game was also the first of two Intermountain League games between the schools, with next game at Bonners Ferry on Feb. 14.

“He’s a good ballplayer,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said of Williams. “Their length inside did a good job of getting him shots. They’re a good team, tall and lengthy. We went out and fought, but that’s a good team. They executed really well and got the shots they wanted.”

Junior Max Simpson scored 13 points for Timberlake (5-7), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday. The Badgers played without top scorer Tyler Engelson, who was out sick.

Senior Thomas Bateman scored 10 points and Brody Rice added 20 assists for Bonners Ferry (14-0), which hosts Logos on Monday.

"Great defensive game for the Badgers," Bonners Ferry coach Nathan Williams said.
