Right to Life marches for 46th year in Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d’ALENE — Those who marched with Right to Life of Coeur d’Alene hoped to share a message of positivity Saturday morning.

“That’s my prayer today. No scare tactics, nothing like that,” said John Anderson of Post Falls.

About 100 people, including children, marched from the Candlelight Church parking lot along U.S. 95 in conjunction with Right to Life events happening across the country. This was the 46th year for Right to Life marches nationwide. 

Most attendees held signs provided by Right to Life. Signs expressed sentiments like "Love Life, Choose Life" or gave statistics on abortion rates in the U.S.

While abortion is illegal in Idaho, many in attendance believed there’s more work to be done to protect the lives of unborn children and support expectant mothers across the country.

“Being here is a worthy thing,” said John Moore of Post Falls. “It’s an ongoing battle.”

“We’re here to remember the babies, the mothers, and the sanctity of life,” Tanya of Rathdrum said.

“Mothers should be supported to choose life, and to be a great mom,” added Tanya’s neighbor, Rachel.

Pastor Michael Slothower from River of Life Friends Church in Post Falls described how Right to Life continues to fight against “the advancement of pro-abortion legislation,” as well as misconceptions about the pro-life movement while addressing the crowd ahead of the march.

“Every human life is beautiful, has unique dignity and is worthy of protection,” Slothower said.

“May we be examples of faith, of hope, of love. ... for all born and unborn,” said Deacon Andy Finney from St. Thomas Church and Mission House of Coeur d’Alene.
