TURKEYS: Population has skyrocketed

| January 17, 2025 1:00 AM

Christy Wood was totally correct in bringing up before the city council the issue of wild turkeys in the Fairway Forest area. I have lived in that area for 45 years, the first 40 turkey free. In recent years the turkey population has gone from a few to I would estimate maybe 100. The biggest problem is their excrement which leaves permanent stains on driveways, sidewalks, fences, and kills different varieties of grasses. It is not a small (think Canada Geese) or inexpensive problem. This past spring I spent over 10K on new vinyl fencing which is permanently stained from being bombarded by turkeys nesting in trees above.

The city needs to eliminate this problem by trapping and relocating these pests to the wild where they belong.
