PREP BASKETBALL: Big second half powers Lakeland past Moscow

RATHDRUM — Senior Mason Hensley scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Lakeland Hawks erased an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the Moscow Bears 61-50 in Inland Empire League play Saturday at Hawk Court.
Brayden Carrel added 14 points and 12 rebounds, Hensley five assists for Lakeland (6-5, 1-2 IEL), and Peyton Hillman hit four 3-pointers, all in the third quarter, and finished with 12 points for the Hawks, who outscored the Bears 42-23 in the second half.
Tyson Izzo scored 15 points Traiden Cummings 13, Abram Godfrey 11 for Moscow (6-6, 0-3).
Lakeland is scheduled to play Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., on Tuesday in Bonners Ferry.

SANDPOINT — Senior Emerik Jones recorded a 26 points, including three 3-pointers, as the host Bulldogs scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to down the Falcons of Liberty Lake at Les Rogers Court.
“We knew they were going to make a run at some point and it was going to come down to how we handled it,” Sandpoint coach Brian Childs said. “We made some plays and shots tonight that we haven’t made all season. When teams have went on runs, we haven’t been able to answer. But tonight, we never let them take the lead. It was a good team win with everyone contributing.”
Sandpoint (3-7) hosts St. Maries on Tuesday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior Max Simpson scored 17 points to lead four Tigers into double figures in the nonleague victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Nate Dykeman and Wade VanGundy each added 14 points, Tyler Engelson 11 for Timberlake (5-6).
“Good team win today,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “The team is working really hard defensively, and playing with intensity. Grangeville did a great job limiting Tyler’s shots, but he was still able to work hard ... Max had another double-double (points and rebounds). Nate and Wade stepped up for the team today, with Lucas (Vallieres) out sick.”
Gage Smith scored 19 points for Grangeville (2-9), which lost 65-50 at home to Kellogg on Friday.
Timberlake travels to Kellogg on Tuesday.

“It was a real gutsy win,” said Kellogg coach Mike Martin, whose squad won at Grangeville on Friday. “We played a super clean first half and then they caught fire in the third quarter. On the road, in a back-to-back, to dig one out like that, I was proud of my guys for gutting it out.”
Sophomore Porter Lewis scored 14 points for Kellogg (5-4, 2-1 CIL), which travels to Wallace on Monday.

“Credit to Emma Myers on that shot,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said. “She played a great second half and made some tough buckets against a tough defense. I thought we did a good job of defending her throughout the game.”
Sophomore Livia Driggs added 11 points for Sandpoint (7-8), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.
