PREP BASKETBALL: Engelson scores 27 for Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Senior Tyler Engelson scored 27 points for the Timberlake Tigers in a 62-57 loss to the Lakeside Eagles of Nine Mile Falls at Timberlake High. 

“It was a pretty good game,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “I like how we came out and fought. We just gave up too many second chance opportunities. We’ve got to execute down the stretch, but the kids fought hard.” 

Junior Max Simpson scored 12 points for Timberlake (4-6), which hosts Grangeville on Saturday. 

Lakeside is 7-5.

KENDRICK — The Tigers got a deflection on the Lumberjacks’ end of the court, threw a full-court pass to Alli Roetcisoender, who scored at the buzzer for the nonleague win. 

“It was a hard-fought game,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “We had a chance to win it and got the stop we needed and I let the kids go, but they got a deflection and just made a play.” 

JJ Yearout scored 18 points for St. Maries (5-4), which hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday. 

Roetcisoender scored 24 points for Kendrick (5-4).

Gabe Meyer added 16 points, Isaiah Bateman 10 for Genesis Prep (6-6), which plays host to Asotin (Wash.) next Thursday. 

Talon Rupp Connors scored 10 points for Mullan (0-4), which hosts the Post Falls sophomore team tonight.
