Schneidmiller Realty will have new home at The Plaza Shops

History often comes full circle. The two-story building at the southeast corner of Second Street and Sherman Avenue, currently part of the Coeur d'Alene Resort Plaza Shops, has witnessed the city's evolution.

Built in 1907 by a real estate agent named George F. Steele, it originally housed Colquhoun Hardware, thriving due to the nearby rail line serving the region's booming mining industry, a press release said.

Over the decades, the building hosted a diverse array of businesses, including a cigar store, barber shop and various cafes.

Notably, this was home to a local real estate brokerage and the early professional home of a young real estate agent named Gary Schneidmiller.

Schneidmiller's career flourished, leading to the establishment of Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty and significant growth throughout the Inland Northwest.

"The firm’s success necessitated an expansion for a luxury office into the Hagadone-owned Johnston Building," the release said. "The luxury location, and former bank building, offered stunning lake views across the Resort grounds"

In 2024, the Hagadone Corp. announced the demolition of the Johnston Building to make way for Sherman Tower, a 15-story, 139-room resort.

Recognizing the historical partnership between Schneidmiller Realty and the Hagadone Corp., The Resort offered Coldwell Banker a new home within the Plaza Shops building.

"This move will assure that Coldwell Banker remains at the heart of the reimagined downtown corridor," the release said.

The newly remodeled space will boast over 3,000-square-feet overlooking the lake and Resort grounds.

"Coldwell Banker will continue to be an integral part of Downtown Coeur d'Alene," said Gary Schneidmiller, founder, owner and broker of Schneidmiller Realty. "We are thrilled to soon occupy one of the most visible addresses in the heart of Coeur d’Alene."
