Man jailed for excessive DUI

COEUR d’ALENE — A man who drove drunk last summer will spend three months in jail.

In December, a jury convicted Adam R. Sanders, 38, of excessive driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.

First District Judge Tristan Poorman sentenced Sanders to one year in jail, the maximum possible sentence, with 90 days of actual jail time. Poorman suspended the rest of the sentence and ordered that Sanders spend two years on probation.

The charges stem from August 2024, when a witness observed Sanders driving, “believed him to be intoxicated” and called 911, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

When police contacted Sanders at a residence, prosecutors said, he provided breath samples that showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.29, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.

Sanders denied consuming any alcoholic beverages during the investigation, according to prosecutors, but testified at trial that he had consumed two 24-ounce beers after returning to the residence.
