Winter classes begin next week at Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene

For those who wish to pick up new musical skills or enhance their vocal abilities, the Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene has options for all ages this winter semester.

Classes begin Monday and will run through March 28.

Offerings include the popular Mini Music Makers early childhood development program with three levels for ages 6 months to 7 years old and music, dance and education Zumbini classes with two levels.

Youth and adults will have opportunities to learn new instruments with intro to ukulele, guitar and piano courses.

The youth choir program for kids 10-15 years old will help them learn to classically and chorally sing as they begin building sturdy foundations for all styles of vocal performance.

Another popular class is conducting.

Also coming up is the Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene's free Lunch and Learn session from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10.

Artistic Director Kent Kimball will discuss the history of Felix Mendelssohn and his works during "Mendelssohn: The Man and His Masterpieces." Mendelssohn composed music for William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and crafted the oratorio "Elijah." Kimball will share stories, examples and recordings of Mendelssohn, revered as one of history's most prominent composers.

The Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene's mission is to nurture the pursuit of musical excellence through accessible instruction, collaborative partnerships and performance. It holds classes in piano, all strings, some wind instruments and youth choir.
