NIC WRESTLING: Cardinal take Battle in the Gem State dual
MERIDIAN — It didn’t count in the dual, but it meant a lot to North Idaho College’s Jackson Webb.
Webb, a Borah High of Boise product, notched a pin in an exhibition match at 141-pounds against Scout Nash of Umpqua as the Cardinals beat the Riverhawks of Roseburg, Ore., in the Battle in the Gem State dual at Meridian High on Thursday.
“It was really big to get him that match,” NIC coach Derrick Booth said. “He had some former coaches and family there and he was able to get a throw late and get a pin in the first period. It was really cool for him to be the last match and for him to finish it the way he did.”
NIC won each of the matches contested in the dual against Umpqua, forfeiting twice.
“It was good to see the guys come out and compete really well,” Booth said. “It was a good test for us. I don’t think we’re where we need to be yet, but it was good to get a little better before next weekend.”
NIC competes in the NJCAA Coaches Duals in Miami, Okla., next Friday and Saturday on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
