POST FALLS — “A church family has grown close in friendship and faith.”

This central tenet has inspired Post Falls Baptist Church to expand its footprint with a new sanctuary.

The new building on North Spokane Street can accommodate up to 425 people, a significant increase from the previous sanctuary's capacity of 130.

Rev. Seth Hohenstreet noted that past renovations did not fully address the mobility needs of some parishioners. However, the new expansion aims to remedy that.

“Post Falls Baptist Church is just beginning a new chapter,” Hohenstreet said. “What was once a very dear, little white church building is now a big, beautiful new building that was built debt-free.”

The original sanctuary, built in 1975, will now serve as the church’s fellowship hall. This allows the congregation to preserve a piece of its history while still creating room for growth.

The church will celebrate the new building with a special service at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 2.

Hohenstreet reflected on the challenges the church faced in raising the funds for the expansion. He said they had to overcome rising inflation and other obstacles, but after a year, the 17,000-square-foot structure is finally ready to accommodate the growing congregation.

The total cost for the new sanctuary and Sunday school area was approximately $4.3 million.

“It means a bigger sanctuary for the Gospel message to reach more people, a building where elderly and handicapped folks will all be able to access the sanctuary, bathrooms and fellowship hall,” Hohenstreet said.

Hohenstreet said he is especially excited about the new space’s ability to accommodate large gatherings, such as weddings, funerals, vacation Bible school and church club meetings.

“Although it is just a building, Post Falls Baptist Church sees this new, beautiful structure as a tool to reach out to our community,” Hohenstreet said.
