Janet C. Scott (Hoech), 74

| February 23, 2025 1:00 AM

Janet Charlene Hoech Scott passed away Feb. 19, 2025, shortly after her 74th birthday. She was known to all for her quiet nature and adventurous spirit — always ready to cruise for a long ride in the Corvette or travel around and find something new to explore.

She had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and fought through it for over 10 years. She is survived by her sister, Sheila Belliston and family; son Kenneth Sovereign and family; and daughter Kristine Sovereign-Morier and family. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Larry Scott (m. 2001-2013) and Alton Sovereign (m. 1972-1980); and parents John and Margaret Hoech.

Jan was born Feb. 15, 1951, in Lewiston, Idaho. She grew up exploring the mountains and lakes of Washington, Idaho and Montana, chasing her dad while he was garnet hunting. She loved everything outdoors from camping to hiking to cross-country skiing to traveling to the coast and playing with her dogs. She graduated from Moscow High School in 1969, she pursued her B.S. in elementary education and graduated from University of Idaho in 1973.

Throughout her life, Jan pursued her dream of traveling, spreading love and joy to those around her. She was known as Mrs. S by many of her students while she was the Librarian at Lakes Middle School in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Speaking to her former students, they all recollected mom being positive, kind and helpful.

Her love for her dogs was renowned by all that were close to her. The many breeds she loved were labs, retrievers, cocker spaniels, terriers, yorkies and yorkie-poos. And for a short time, she bred yorkies and was always happy to find the perfect home for the little pups.

Her wilder side included her love for muscle cars. When Larry brought home a '73 'vette, a new love had been kindled, shortly after that, another 'vette showed up in the driveway only this one was a '98. Her adventures with the Corvette Club kept her busy traveling locally in the Northwest and making new friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave. Interment will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
