Coeur d'Alene police calls rise 20% in January

Coeur d’Alene police were busy in January, with 4,601 calls for service, a 20% increase over January 2024, according to the department’s monthly crime report. 

Police made 116 new arrests in the first month of the year, with 38 for either drug possession, under the influence or frequenting, and manufacturing or delivery of drugs. 

Six arrests were for disturbing the peace, five for open container violations, four for sex offender registration violations and four for aggravated/battery. 

Of 69 warrant arrests in January by Coeur d’Alene police, 15 were for probation/parole violation. 

Most arrests, 121, were misdemeanors, while 64 were felonies. 

“During the month of January there were 97 offenders booked by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department with a total of 185 charges,” the report said.

December statistics were 106 offenders and 217 charges.

The most reported crimes were for drugs, 48; assaults, 36; DUI, 15; vandalism, 15; juvenile problem, 12; child abuse, seven; and pornography, seven. 

There were five residential burglaries reported, 17 thefts and six aggravated assaults. Two reports of rape are under investigation. 

Code enforcement calls totaled 11 in January, down 41% from 189 in January 2024.
