PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Good start helps Genesis Prep over Wallace

WALLACE — Senior Gabe Meyer scored seven of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter for the third-seeded Genesis Prep Jaguars in a 57-43 win over the second-seeded Wallace Miners in the opening round of the 2A District 1 tournament on Monday at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Sophomore Sawyer Bateman and senior Dylan Tosh scored 12 points each for Genesis Prep (10-12), which split the season series with Wallace, but the Miners were awarded the second seed after having a higher MaxPreps.com ranking. 

Genesis Prep won by one point at Wallace during Scenic Idaho Conference play, and Wallace won by two points at Genesis Prep.

Wallace senior Julian Davis scored 16 points. 

On Wednesday, Genesis Prep travels to top-seeded Lakeside in a semifinal game, while Wallace hosts Clark Fork in a loser-out game.

PLUMMER — The fourth-seeded Wampus Cats hung with the top-seeded Knights for a half, then Lakeside outscored Clark Fork 49-22 in the second half at Ron Miller Court in the first round of the 2A District 1 tournament. 

Junior Hallah Peone scored 18 of his game-high 31 points in the first half for Lakeside (13-5), which plays host to third-seeded Genesis Prep (10-12) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. 

Tyson Charley added 16 points for Lakeside, Preston SpottedHorse 14, Brayden Greensky 12. 

Evrett Montgomery hit three 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Clark Fork (4-13), which travels to second-seeded Wallace (13-8) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a loser-out game. Mateo Cruz added 14 points, Owen Howard 11 for the Wampus Cats.
