Joann at Silver Lake Mall avoids closure list
Joann, a fabrics and crafts store at the Silver Lake Mall, was not on a list of stores the company plans to close that was revealed Wednesday. It included two stores in Idaho, one each in Boise and Moscow, and 15 in Oregon.
“As part of the ongoing Chapter 11 process and our efforts to maximize the value of the business, JOANN has filed a motion seeking court authority to begin closing approximately 500 stores across the nation. This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve," the company said in a press release.
Joann filed for bankruptcy in March 2024. It has more than 800 stores across the country.
The Silver Lake Mall store opened in 2013 and has been an anchor tenant, attracting a loyal clientele of crafters. Joann Fabrics had previously operated on Fourth Street next to Safeway in midtown Coeur d'Alene.
"A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time. Right-sizing our store footprint is a critical part of our efforts to ensure the best path forward for JOANN," according to the release.
Other retailers that recently announced Coeur d'Alene closures include Macy's at the Silver Lake Mall and Big Lots.
