Honor Society students lead charge for science grant requests
RATHDRUM — In a demonstration of leadership and dedication, three seniors from Lakeland High School are making waves in the science department.
Lakeland High National Honor Society President Ella Clark, Vice President Amanda Olson and Secretary Annalie Terzulli are taking on the challenge of securing financial support for hands-on science projects designed to engage students and enhance science curriculum by spearheading science staff grant requests. With a shared passion for the sciences and a desire to inspire a love for learning, these young leaders have pinpointed several key areas where grant funding could make a significant impact. Their focus includes vital lab equipment upgrades and the acquisition of reusable materials to support courses in physical science, biology, chemistry and physics at their school.
“Our goal is to create more opportunities for students to explore science in a practical and exciting way,” Frank Vieira, Lakeland National Honor Society adviser and school counselor, said in a Tuesday news release. “By providing these grants, we can provide resources that will inspire our students and help them develop critical thinking skills.”
The grants were paid with a $5,000 donation from Vitalant, made possible by generous contributions of staff and students who donated blood throughout 2024. The blood donors not only played a crucial role in obtaining the donation but also helped generate lifesaving blood for the community.
The National Honor Society at Lakeland High School is dedicated to promoting scholarship, leadership, service and character among students. Through initiatives like this, the society continues to empower students to take active roles in their education and community.
